The Sacrifice of a Hero: Revival Page 5
“Hail our leader, the Knight of the dawn and the servant of the sun!” One of the other knights yelled. “Frayne, our knight!” shouted another knight. They were all hailing for Frayne, paying him their respect by placing all of their heels together; they were all looking straight: they placed their hands on their chest after closing their fists tightly; they stroke their chest right above the heart and then they snapped the right arms straight as they said in one thunderous voice,
“We will never betray you, our leader,”
“Yet, what is going to happen to you, Master Frayne?” One of the Night Watch Knights inquired anxiously.
“You are going to accompany us, right?” Another knight suggested.
“No, I’d rather stay here in Northumberland. The king must never find that the treasure has been transferred. If I accompany you, he will track us and he will find out what we will do if he sees the mouth of the reef open, so I’d rather not take that risk; enough now, hurry up everyone, ride up over your platforms,” Frayne insisted, “Get out of here, now,” Frayne looked at Samuel and yelled as loud as he could.
“Sam, I chose you for a reason, you are the only one I trust, and for this I rely on you to continue my journey and lead your companions to safety across the dark oceans and the Mountains, I chose you and only you to reconstruct the fortress of the Night Watch Knights. I’m certain you are going to accomplish the mission, and pay extreme attention to that bow, it will be of great importance to the fortress, it shall never be lost, hide everything and do not expose it to the sun rays and not even a breeze of air, build the castle of the God, the wisest one amongst the gods of Norway, make it your home and do not leave a tiny hole unsealed until the moment I join you,” Frayne extended as he placed his strong hand on Samuel’s shoulder, remember you are the symbol of bravery in your family, make them proud as they hear of your accomplishments.” Frayne said as he handed Samuel the scrolled parchment.
“Here are the last diagrams, they are the ancient Egyptian diagrams that you will use to build the huge maze; it is the same except for some details of more than forty thousand years ago. You have to start as soon as you arrive.
“Beska is going to accompany us, right?” Samuel inquired. “I mean; in order to protect the big maze we are going to build in the new fortress,” Samuel explained as he moved his long hair that was covering his face “We need Beska with us,” He insisted.
“You already know, that Beska, the blue god of Dwarfs never left the castle of the Knights and his role had always been to protect that maze; he never let down my family, and that fact must never change, so he is going to stay with me until we join you,” Frayne asserted.
Frayne opened up a chest he called the chest of Khufu, inside it was another box, he named it Horus chest. The knight unsealed the chest to see a bright glowing light coming out lighting the entire surrounding. A mesmerizing rainbow light spread into the entire room as Frayne continued talking “For thousands of years, the Egyptians protected these butterflies, and bred them, their mission is to create an unimaginable creature that when mixed with blood; can burn hot like the rays of the sun.” Frayne explained as he put the butterflies on the back of his robust hand.
“You may think that they are ordinary butterflies, but they have the power to feel the way you feel. They love the way you love. And they hate the way you hate,” Frayne commented as he closed the chest and handed Samuel the box containing the two butterflies.
“Your mission will be to keep protect those butterflies, Samuel, feed them, nourish both of them and keep them, for they will make the only potion of life; once you drink it, you will become one of us, one of them and together you will protect your lives and preserve your existence until eternity,”
Frayne grasped Rose’s hand tightly as he said “You know Rose, from this day on, you and all the other knights will be the protectors of this grasps Rose’s hand more firmly. “From this day forward, all of you will be the guardians of the Night Watch Treasure,” Frayne ushered Rose towards the hidden secret door.
“We don’t have time to waste, there is very little time left,” Frayne told his companions and the rest of the knights.
“Maybe it can be two days or even less; so you’d better hurry up, all the ships shall be lifting their anchor, by no means you can reveal the secret of this location,” Frayne added as he turned his head back and looked at Samuel, and at the other Watch Knights; it was then when Frayne dropped to one knee and paid his last respect and waved his friends a final good bye before he stood up, and stepped forwards with Rose into the glowing passage.
And right in that instance, the room of the Night Watch Treasure darkened as if it was never there.
“The sun has already started moving,” Frayne commented, while the hidden door closed behind them slowly, but Frayne couldn’t stop thinking of whether he would be able to see Samuel and the rest of the knights again.
And only in that minute did Frayne stopped abruptly in the middle of the way, pulling Rose tightly into his robust arms; he inhaled her smooth skin as he buried his face in the side of her neck feeling her and smelling her fragrance as much as he could so that he could never forget anything about her; Rose slid her knee between Frayne’s legs and moved it slowly against his thighs.
“Frayne,” Rose whispered, “I have never loved someone, but you, I love you so much. But I have a bad feeling, and now you are transferring the treasure, I’m sure you know something, is it necessary to do it, Frayne?” Rose inquired in her musical voice as she looked straight into Frayne’s eyes with her beautiful eyes that had always made him feel happy and unique with her love.
“King of Northumberland must never be able to discover the location of this treasure,” Frayne repeated as he took Rose’s hand and led her towards the passageway.
“Come on Rose, we all should leave this place, and I want you to go to my family’s castle until I join you whenever it is safe,” Frayne insisted.
“No, I will not leave you, just tell me why I can’ stay with you?” Rose inquired anxiously.
“Listen to me, Rose, it is really very dangerous for you to stay here, I know the king must be looking for me restlessly. I can’t let you face such a danger, no, I will never be able to forgive myself if anything happens to you,” Frayne said as he waved his hand slowly placing it gently over her lips to silence her.
Rose’s frightening and fear that she would lose Frayne wrinkled her face. She knew he would never change his mind; he had always been stubborn; the sun started to set slowly behind a rim of a dark shaded hill when tears dropped from her eyes, while the sun started to fade away behind a hill of dark shaded rims, Frayne and Rose finally reached the surface of the place. It was yellow; everything seemed to be sparkling and blushing reflecting a small stream that was not far away from where Rose was with Frayne. The horses were tied to the side of an oak tree, they pawed as Frayne and Rose got closer from them. Rose’s horse was of a medium size; it was a white horse that suited her nobility. She loved calling him Wind; she was braver than any other woman even in the way she rode her horse astride like a man.
Frayne wrapped his arms around Rose’s waist and pulled her tightly and kissed her as passionate as he could. He was longing to seize her, but he couldn’t; her skin became like a distant illusion he would never be able to taste again, for it was the last time he would see her and look straight into her eyes. The thought itself scared him and stopped him in his tracks as he pulled her even closer and glued his body to her firm body stamping his lips over her mist lips without even taking a breath. It was hard for him to let go the sweet fragrance and the scent of life he loved in her; it was really hard for Frayne to resist the feeling of Rose’s breast against his chest, but he had to, it was time to let go of her.
“You have to trust me,” Frayne told Rose assuredly, grabbing her closely.
Tears ran down Rose’s smooth face and wet her cheeks. She knew that something terrible was going to occur; she could feel it; her instinct
never failed her; she could see it in Frayne’s eyes. She hoped that whatever could happen wouldn’t destroy her relationship, whatever happened, she wouldn’t let it get split her from her lover.
Frayne knew very well that he could never see her again, therefore, he kept watching her as she rode the horse slowly and in her expert movements; she had always been a knight in the way she moved and the way she walked. Frayne tried hard to gather what was left of his strength and tightened his fist so that he wouldn’t stop Rose from leaving; she made her way and kept looking back at Frayne as she did as if she wanted to remember every move and smile of his face before leaving him behind, then Frayne himself, mounted his black horse and his very rare; well – bred war horse. Frayne had always been a good owner to his horse; they were close friends for many years. Frayne leant down his head with his hair waved by the air and laid his head over the stallion’s neck; it was quite impossible for him not to feel the strength and the warmth of his horse, feeling his unrivaled strength and warmth. “I will always remember you, my friend, you never let me down; I know you have been bold sometimes, but I’m sure I will miss you. Everyone has plans for his life, but we often fail by the end,” Frayne muttered as he smoothly patted his horse’s shoulder and nudged him toward the last gallop they go into with Rose for the last time; he had to make sure she would reach his family’s castle safely; Frayne got closer from Rose’s horse and kissed her passionately as he knew that he would never see her again. It was then when a sudden loud noise of snoring interrupted them. Frayne pulled his sword and looked around him to see that several wolves approached them; their number was accentuating as they came out one in pairs, out of the thick pine woods. Rose was lucky for her horse was able to notice the wolves and span away before Frayne. The lady was finally able to maintain her balance; Rose leaned forwards over her horse and hollered at it to run as fast as it could. They both raced off towards Frayne’s direction. There in the stables, Rose heard some other riders speaking about hungry beasts and wolves killing horses and their riders mercilessly; she became sure that their lives were in serious danger, but they couldn’t stop the progress they made. Yet, when Rose thought she reached safety, two huge snarling creepy wolves traced their steps through the woods; Rose knew they were after them, but she didn’t stop; it would mean death.
Rose pushed her horse forwards to run faster; it was easy for her to imagine the horrible death she could encounter under the jaw of those ruthless beasts; her heart started pounding as the wolves approached her back. The lady used all the power that was left within her to call out for Frayne’s help. The latter heard her screams as he rode right over the top of the hill, he looked around him to look for Rose, but she was nowhere to be found; it seemed that they were distant and Frayne assumed it was no more than the sound of a golden bird or a prey caught by an eagle. Below him, Frayne could clearly see a few Soldiers from Northumberland; many among them held their crossbow; their range was around three hundred yards; they could easily pierce any knight’s chest even if he would be wearing his armor. Frayne knew very well more than anybody else that a knight with his cross bow meant a perpetual death for all the foot warriors. Frayne saw them, but at the same time, they noticed his presence and the information spread out in a fraction of a second. At the beginning, Frayne was surprised to see those knights out there; he wondered why the king would do that, but then he became certain that the King must have ordered all his warriors to find Frayne no matter how much time or power it would take them. Frayne chose a narrow trail and luckily he managed to lose the cavalry; yet, he heard the same scream again; and at that moment, he realized that it was Rose’s voice, he knew she was in danger; but he didn’t know what kind of danger exactly was surrounding her. Frayne was torn between going to save his beloved and escaping from the cavalry who were waiting for an opportunity to track him down. He turned his horse around and galloped off in Rose’s direction; he was hoping that he could be there for her on time and although he knew that the warriors would catch him, but his life was no more of importance to him as long as he would save his sweetheart and the woman of his life.
Meanwhile, the wolves had already overtaken Rose; her horse kept running, but it started to breathe heavily and was tired that it started to lose its stride. The leading wolf rushed up and with its powerful jaws, it ripped one of horse’s haunches causing the horse’s leg an unbearable pain in its leg Another wolf attacked the horse’s other leg; but the latter kicked it with its head. However, the horse’s steps were finally weakened as it stumbled into a deep hole throwing Rose hard on the ground and banged her head. The lady’s leg was severely wounded; it was hurting; she couldn’t bare the pain and she realized she twisted her leg. Yet, the horse didn’t leave its rider and continued defending her until the biggest wolf, circled the horse and positioned itself not far from Rose who was lying helplessly on the ground. Her body was scratched and bruised severely. Rose crawled on her stomach and grabbed her leg in a helpless try to escape, but she lost control over her body and even her vision was blurred. It was in the moment when she started to get ready to surrender, that Frayne appeared on his horse. He strapped the back of the beast with his sword and leaning forwards, he wrapped his robust arm around his horse’s neck and with a great power and skill, slid his body expertly side by side to his horse; his leg touched the ground as he vaulted through the moist air and finally he was finally able to crouch over Rose and picked her up.
Brushing his hair back behind him, Frayne swung his sword and using his sharp blade , he tried to kill all the wolves, but surprisingly, an atrocious wolf, in his glaring teeth, went in low and ripped ripping a slab of Frayne’s flesh from the back of his thigh. Frayne stumbled back, but miraculously, he managed to drop the wolf down with a powerful swing of his frightening sword; luckily, his wound wasn’t a dangerous threat to his life. Another ferocious wolf jumped and grabbed Rose ruthlessly from her injured leg right by her boot; it was growling like a beast who wanted to have his prey no matter what the cost could be; it was shaking its head ravenously, and dragging Rose to the ground; the lady chocked to the extent that she couldn’t scream anymore. In a helpless attempt t save herself, Rose grabbed the dirt of the ground tightly; she dag her nails into the dirt as hard as she could, but in vain; she kept grabbing handfuls of meadows and kept kicking the beast with her leg. But Frayne saw many other wolves getting closer from them; they got out of the trees. It seemed they were drawn to Rose’s screams and helpless cries; and the smell of her fresh blood must have attracted them. Frayne, despite his wound, limped closing the distance between him and that ferocious beast that was attacking Rose. Frayne tried his best, but there were just too many of those animals, more than he could handle by himself. Frayne knew that it was the end for both him and Rose when all of a sudden, he heard a whoosh sound; he looked around to see the cavalry throwing their arrows towards the beasts killing them all. For the first time, Frayne felt grateful for the king’s cavalry, those crossbows saved Frayne and most importantly Rose. Frayne crawled to check his beloved wounds; she was lying still on the ground as he shook her gently; but she didn’t move; she might be unconscious from the severity of her wounds. Frayne continued shaking his beloved without caring of those warriors getting closer from him, but she didn’t respond.
“Rose, wake up Rose, it is all over, we are safe,” Frayne screamed as loud as he could, his voice reached the surrounding, but proved to be unable to wake up his Rose; Frayne flipped Rose on her back hoping to see her open her eyes, but he was surprised to see that she was as cold as ice, he moved her slowly, but he saw blood above his hand; he didn’t know where it came from until he saw a wound on Rose’s heart; he kept screaming and yelling while the cavalry was getting closer from him. There wasn’t any time for Frayne to take Rose and escape, to be fugitives, because of the high prizes the king had set for anyone who would help in catching him alive. He knew it was time for him to give up fighting, there was no more delay. Frayne kept screaming and shaking Rose t
o wake her up even when the warriors were grabbing him strongly, he didn’t give up; her name was the last word he kept repeating as they took him away from her. Frayne hoped for a miracle to occur and save his beloved and his heart kept crying from longing to her.
Frayne had led away on his horse; tears dropped on his cheeks as he couldn’t bid his woman a final goodbye; he didn’t care if he would die that day; it rather became his only wish to follow her. Anyway, death was a mercy compared to the life Frayne would live without his beloved. Nothing seemed to be real for Frayne thinking of how he could take a step away from his only beloved. He felt anger for he couldn’t protect his beloved and even if the king himself wasn’t intending to kill Frayne, he would beg him to put an end to his life; he couldn’t bare the shame of being unable to save Rose from those beasts. He was completely lost in thoughts as he was leading his horse slowly through the thick path amidst the woods. There was a new journey awaiting Frayne, one he didn’t know where it would lead him.
Chapter Four: Unfairly executed
Ah last, the fairy delights that revived my soul blasted
Ah! Your memory is like wine, throwing its shadows on me
Ah, for those flowers stolen with the joy she gave my heart,
O’ for your innocence that stood by me left me once and for all
But you have to stop my fond heart, cease your bootless groan
For your hours have finally come on quick pinions that are flown
Shall I yet return to you after being by your absence crowned?
Can I stop scattering livelier roses from growing around?
Your sun will ne'er remit its glowing and shimmering fires
The brightness of your moon, that keeps to oft from heaven never retires
